What is Postpartum?

"Postpartum is generally recognised as the six weeks after birth. Medicine, science, and traditional cultures around the world acknowledge that this is a unique time requiring specific care." Julia Jones, Newborn Mothers

Unfortunately in particularly in our Western culture, this period and the specific needs of women during this monumental transition are not being recognised or attended to.

  • At least 1 in 5 women experience anxiety, depression or both during the transition to motherhood.

  • Two-thirds of Australian mothers don’t meet their own breastfeeding goals.

  • The leading cause of maternal death in Australia, the United States, Canada and New Zealand is suicide.

This has to change!!

With the right education, nourishment and support around you- the first 6 weeks can be better than you thought possible.

How Can a Postpartum Doula Help?

"In the past community would come together to support new mothers. Now we live in nuclear families and culturally don’t have much understanding of women’s needs after childbirth. Sadly many new mothers feel isolated, overwhelmed and exhausted.

Postpartum doulas are non-medical professionals designed to fill this gap with emotional and physical support during the life-changing transition to motherhood. Postpartum doulas help women step into their roles as mothers with confidence and satisfaction."
